2. How the Calculation Works

The MPIR calculator uses the official statutory formula set by the Australian Government. Every approved aged care provider in the country must use this exact method:

Daily DAP ($) = (Unpaid RAD Amount × 8.51%) ÷ 365 Days

The MPIR converts a lump sum into an equivalent daily interest charge. Think of it like a mortgage in reverse: instead of borrowing money and paying daily interest, you are choosing not to pay the lump sum upfront, so the provider charges you daily interest on the unpaid balance.

3. Worked Examples

$350,000 regional room, full DAP:

($350,000 × 0.0851) ÷ 365 = $81.60 per day ($2,482 / month)

$750,000 metro room, $300,000 RAD paid upfront:

Remaining $450,000 × 0.0851 ÷ 365 = $104.92 per day ($3,191 / month)

$1,000,000 premium Sydney room, full DAP:

($1,000,000 × 0.0851) ÷ 365 = $233.15 per day ($7,092 / month)
